Family Deductible

Some family insurance plans are covered by what is called a family deductible. This refers to a deductible that is met by the expenses of all members of the family that are covered by the plan.

If you are going to get dental insurance for your entire family, you want to look for a plan with a family deductible. This will save you money over the life of your policy, because if one member of the family has an expensive dental procedure that they must undergo during the year, the deductible amount is applied to the entire family's policy.

A family deductible is usually a higher total amount than an individual deductible, but you need to keep in mind that the amount is divided amongst all members of the family. So to figure how much the deductible really is, divide the amount by the number of people in the family, and this will tell you how much the deductible is for each person.
