Exclusions

Exclusions are dental treatments that are not covered under a dental insurance plan. Some plans are very restrictive and exclude or discourage necessary dental treatment. Exclusions should be to in place to discourage unnecessary cosmetic work but they can sometimes include dental work that is essential to the benefit of a person's well being. People should be aware of these exclusions and limitations in their plan. However, many settle for less adequate treatments due to the full costs incurred on the preferable treatment.

Exclusions can also happen when the number of procedures per year is limited. This means that after a certain number of treatments, the coverage stops. This can apply to cost rather than the amount of procedures which basically means that only a certain amount of money is paid by the insurance company in a given year, anything beyond this amount is to be paid fully by the client. Knowing the exact total of treatments or costs allowed can help the client plan their regular dental care plans. Plans that restrict the number of treatments can cause problems for people who do sincerely require regular visits and treatments. Exclusions also extend to work done by a dentist other than the one specified on the insurance plan.
