Coverage Period

A coverage period is the length of time that a person is covered by their dental insurance plan. This is generally limited to a year at a time. During the coverage period, the people on the plan should all be covered. If a person has their spouse or children on their dental insurance plan, the plan may specify that the spouse remains married and that the children remain under a certain age during the coverage period in order to remain under the coverage. The coverage period is stated on the insurance plan and any treatments required after this period are not covered.

In order to continue to have dental insurance coverage when the coverage period is over, the person must renew their coverage. They can arrange to do this automatically at the end of every coverage period. However if they do not renew the dental insurance, then the coverage period is over and a new one does not begin. During a coverage period, a person should be able to have as much dental treatment as is allowed on their insurance plan. A person can easily change their dental insurance company if they are unhappy with the service due to the short amount of time in a coverage period.
