Basic Services

The term basic services refers to the dental procedures that patients undergo to repair and restore their teeth that have been damaged due to trauma, cavities, decay, functional impairment, abrasion, attrition, and erosion. Basic services are usually done on individual teeth, not the whole mouth.

Examples of basic services include surgery, root canals, and cavity fillings. Another branch of basic services is periodontics, which is the treatment of the bone and tissue of the mouth. This would include some forms of gum disease.

Most dental insurance plans include all basic services. A dental insurance plan that did not include all basic services is probably a plan to avoid, as these are the more expensive, and more common, dental procedures. When you need a basic service done, if you fail to have it done, you are setting yourself up for major problems in your dental future. Insurance can help cut the cost of these important dental procedures.
