A discount dental plan

A statewide dental health discount plan will be introduced in California in November. The first ever license for this plan has been issued by the state regulators and the plan will give members the chance to make use of a network of over 8000 dentists in at least 14,000 locations in the state. This fact makes the discount plan not only unique but also the biggest dental discount plan in existence.

This program was licensed by the state after too many so-called discount plans for dental care had been discontinued because they did not deliver. At least six discount health companies have been told to discontinue their plans that were often based on false promises and false information. Too many people who desperately need medical or dental care have signed up for fake plans only to find out (often during a visit to a doctor) that the plan was a fake.

As the health discount industry will now (for the biggest part) be regulated by the state this means that health plans already offering discount plans can continue their work as long as they apply for a license. IT is expected that at least 60% of California's people who are not able to afford dental care will be able to make use of dental discount plans. Eventually this plan will cut costs on all sides. If dental care is provided on a regular basis people will not wait to get dental care and teeth won't deteriorate to a point where dental care is unavoidable and costs are too high to afford.

Most discount plans work based on annual fee and members are provided with a card that offers discounts on care provided by dentists within the discount company's network. This means in effect that a regular checkup could cost $30 instead of the usual $40. It is expected that many people will start making use of these discount plans now that they are regulated by the state.
