Delta Dental Sets Record for Contributions

Delta Dental is a major dental plan provider in California. In the 2006 year the company made a record $930,000 in contributions towards dental education, community outreach programs and dental research. These contributions were made by the large San Francisco office in addition to affiliate programs in seventeen different states. Nearly twenty-one million get dental insurance coverage through Delta Dental and the company employs 3,700 individuals.

$460,000 of the contribution dollars went to dental schools and students throughout the United States in addition to starting a new scholarship for Hispanic students in the state of California. Next year the company plans to expand the scholarship program to Florida, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Another $370,000 of the contribution dollars went to dental clinics throughout the country and for community outreach programs and services which help to provide dental services to those who can't afford in, mostly working families with low-income.

Another $75,000 dollars was donated as a grant to the UCLA and the University of Florida for new evidence-based dentistry. The grant will help test the effectiveness of anti-microbial peptides to slow the main cause of decay in teeth. In addition, contributions were made to a five year study to end smoking by the UC San Francisco's School of Dentistry along with the federal National Institutes of Health
