When dental insurance costs too much
People who cannot afford to pay for dental insurance are often the same people who are not able to pay in cash for dental treatment. Treatments or checkups for those who are not insured need to be paid upfront. If this is not possible for you it means that you will have to miss out on often very necessary dental care. Tooth and gum disease are a huge problem and illnesses of the teeth and gums grow worse and teeth can deteriorate to a point where people are not able to use their teeth anymore. Obviously treatments of seriously deteriorated teeth are extremely expensive so dental car is necessary for anybody. If tooth disease goes untreated for a long period of time tooth decay may cause you to loose your teeth altogether. Infections in the gums may cause serious problems such as blood poisoning. Fortunately even the less fortunate now have the option to receive dental care for free. There is a mobile dental care unit with dentists that can perform necessary procedures and give care to those who need it the most. All this takes place in a mobile van that parks in Seaside four times a year. Patients come in from all kinds of places and when the van is parked there for a duration of three days, at least 40 patients are seen and helped. Dentists and dental surgeons volunteer their time and the van is financed by a group of people who continue to make donations to 'give back to the community'. Till there is a cheap way for people with a low income to take out a dental insurance people will have to depend on the generosity of dentists and donors to receive the much needed medical care that they cannot afford to pay for themselves. Only urgent care is given in the mobile clinic and the dentists are specialized in problems due to neglect. Source: www.seasidesignal.com added on October 11, 2006 |
