Available alternatives to individual dental insurance

If you are unable to get any dental insurance for individuals or you are unable to find any individual dental plans that are reasonably priced, then you still have a few alternatives to get good dental care at prices you can afford:
  1. Shop around for the dentist you can afford
Dentists, like any other professionals, charge varying rates. By asking for rates from several dentists, you may find one dentist who offers reasonable fees that you are able to afford.
  2. Create your own dental insurance savings account
The average person really does not need to spend that much on dental care each year. In fact, this is precisely one of the reasons why so many insurance providers are unwilling to provide individual dental coverage. Since costs are not staggering, you may wish to open a low-fee savings account and place some money into your account each month. This way, you should be able to save up enough money for regular dental appointments and dental care.

  3. Visit a dental college in your area
Many dental colleges have special programs which allow dental students who are supervised and advanced in their training to offer free or very inexpensive care to patients in the community. By going to a dental college for dental work, you will save a lot of money and even help a dental student hone their skills.
  4. Develop a dental care payment plan with your dentist
If you are having trouble paying, some dentists will help you work out financing or a monthly payment option that may make dental care more affordable for you. Many dental care professionals would rather get paid monthly rather than see patients neglect their teeth and gums.
If you are not covered by an employer and do not qualify for family dental insurance, getting individual dental insurance can be difficult. Many companies would lose money by offering an individual dental plan insurance, and for this reason many insurance providers simply do not offer this type of plan. This is not an excuse to neglect your oral health, however - there are many good alternatives to help you get the dental care you need.
